How do I get my Firearms Licence?

Requirements

Firearms Licences in Queensland are administered by the Queensland Police Service. To apply for a Weapons Licence in Queensland, you must:

Applying for a weapons licence

Information regarding the licence application process is provided during our Firearms Safety Course.

Once you have received your Statement of Attainment for 10618 Nat Firearms Safety you can apply for your Weapons Licence.

To apply online, you will need electronic (scanned) copies of the following:

  • A passport photo
  • Statement of Attainment for 10618 Nat Firearms Safety
  • Proof of Address
  • Documentation for a genuine reason to hold a licence.

What should I bring to the Course?
  • Your Drivers License (or other photographic ID)
  • A hat, sunglasses and water bottle
  • Notepad and pen
  • Wear suitable, neat, casual clothing, enclosed shoes, no camouflage clothing
  • Any food or drink you wish to consume during the course.

Please ensure that you are not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol as you will not be permitted to attend nor participate in the course.

Before purchasing a Firearm

Once you have a Weapons Licence (or have applied for one) you can apply for a Permit to Acquire (PTA) a weapon. Find out more information on the Queensland Police website. The mandatory waiting period for a PTA is 28 days from submitting the PTA forms.

You’ve got your licence, your PTA, secure storage and you’ve purchased a firearm.

Are your courses only in Maryborough?

Most courses are held in Maryborough. Courses are also able to be conducted in regional Queensland on request. Please contact us to check availability.

What if I cannot make the course date I’m enrolled in?

Please contact us as soon as possible to notify us of your situation. With enough notice, we may be able to re-schedule your course date.

Am I entitled to a refund?

In some circumstances, yes. Please check our refund policy below.

Refund Policy

Impact Firearms Training will protect fees paid in advance and has a fair and reasonable refund policy.

An application for refund is addressed according to the notice given by the student making the request:

  • 14 days prior to the commencement of the course – 100% refund
  • Between 13 and 7 days prior to the course – 75% refund
  • Between 6 days and the commencement of the course – 50% refund
  • Withdrawal during the course – no refund. (A pro-rata credit is available so the Student can complete the course at a later date).

Information prior to enrolment or the commencement of training assessment, whichever comes first, specifies the student’s rights as a consumer, including, but not limited to, and statutory cooling-off period (where applicable) and the student’s right to obtain a refund for the services not provided by Impact Firearms Training in the event the:

  • Arrangement is terminated early; or
  • Impact Firearms Training fails to provide the agreed services.

All requests for refund must be via email and phone call.
